The header and footer are drawn on top of existing page content — this app does not measure what is already printed near the page edges. Dense pages may need larger margins to avoid overprinting, and the tool warns but never stops on such collisions. The {filename} token resolves to an empty string because files are processed with privacy-safe descriptors that never carry real filenames. Pages that carry a 90° or 270° rotation are stamped in the document's underlying coordinate space, so the band may appear on the side of such pages rather than the visual top. Only one font, weight, and size applies to all zones; individual zone styling like bold or italic is not supported.
How to use this tool
- Upload the PDF you want to mark up. The tool adds a new text layer to every page and leaves the rest of the document untouched, so nothing on the original page is moved or deleted.
- Switch on the header band, the footer band, or both. Each band has three zones (left, center, right); type a plain-text template in any zone, e.g. a document title on the left, a chapter name in the center, and a date on the right.
- Use dynamic tokens inside your templates to fill in values per page: {page} for the current page number, {totalPages} for the total page count, and {date} for the day the job runs (YYYY-MM-DD). A template like 'Page {page} of {totalPages}' becomes 'Page 3 of 12' automatically.
- Set page-1 behaviour (same as the rest, omit header/footer on the first page, or give page 1 its own templates) and, if you want a book-style layout, switch on odd/even separation so left and right pages use mirrored zone text.
- Adjust the margins (distance from the page edge to the text line) and font size, then run the tool. If the bands are too large for the page, this app shows a warning instead of silently overlapping your content.
