AVIF files: how to open and convert them
The smallest widely-supported image format today, built on the AV1 video codec. Newer browsers decode it natively.
What this site can do with AVIF
- Open and read: yes
- Write and convert to: yes
- Compression: lossy — a quality slider applies when encoding
- Transparency: supported
Encoding is noticeably slower than JPG/WEBP because AV1 is expensive to encode.
