Build a file workflow one step at a time

A workflow sends each step’s output to the next compatible tool. Choose your steps, check each option, and run the chain when it fits the job.

Prepare a PDF for email

Flatten form fields, then reduce the PDF size before sharing it.

  1. Flatten the PDF
  2. Compress the PDF
  3. Download the result

Flattening makes form fields part of the page, so they can’t be edited as fields afterward.

Make a scanned PDF searchable

Recognize text on scanned pages, then compress the PDF.

  1. Recognize text with OCR
  2. Compress at high quality
  3. Download the PDF

OCR can misread unclear scans; check the recognized text before relying on it.

Prepare images for sharing

Remove image metadata, resize the images, and convert them to WebP.

  1. Remove image metadata
  2. Resize the images
  3. Convert to WebP

Resizing changes pixel dimensions; keep the original if you need its full resolution.

Create WebP images from a PDF

Export PDF pages as images, resize them, and convert them to WebP.

  1. Export pages as PNG
  2. Resize the exported images
  3. Convert them to WebP

The workflow creates an image for every page, so a long PDF produces many files. Extract the pages you need first if you only want some of them.

Resize images for a website

Resize images to a maximum width, then convert them to WebP.

  1. Resize to 1,920 pixels wide
  2. Convert to WebP
  3. Download the images

Smaller dimensions can reduce detail; keep the originals if you need the full-size images.

A workflow from start to finish

Start with the file or files you want to work on, then add a compatible tool for each next action. The available choices depend on the output of the previous step.

Set options for each step before running. Workflows run compatible local tools in sequence, and each tool keeps its own file and size limits.

Run the same chain on separate files with batch mode, or use a suggested recipe as a starting point. Review the results before downloading or continuing in another tool.

A workflow can connect only tools with compatible inputs and outputs. Each tool keeps its own file and size limits.

How does a workflow pass files between tools?

Each step receives the output from the step before it. The next-step list shows tools that accept that output, and the workflow stops when a selected step cannot produce the kind of result the next step needs.

Can a workflow mix any tools?

No. A workflow can include only tools whose input and output types fit the chain. Individual tools may also set file-count, file-size, or format limits, so check the options and requirements before running it.

What is saved in a workflow recipe?

Saved recipes keep the name, tool choices, and supported non-text options in this browser’s local storage. They omit files, passwords, calculator values, and free-text settings, so enter free-text values again after loading one.
