AI chat and answering are not available in this build yet: the cloud AI backend is not configured, so asking a question always ends in an 'AI is not available yet' state rather than producing an answer. Only the PDF's text layer is used. Scanned or image-only pages have no extractable text — run them through Paperlane's OCR tool first. Grounded answers and page citations cannot exist without the AI backend, since they are produced by sending the extracted context and your question to the cloud model.

How to use this tool

  1. Add a PDF with the file picker or drag-and-drop — its text layer is extracted locally in your browser, and nothing is uploaded.
  2. Review the extracted-text preview and the page list to confirm the document's text was read correctly, then choose whether the question should cover all pages or only specific ones.
  3. Type your question about the document's content into the question box and press Ask.
  4. Today, asking a question ends in a clear 'AI chat is not available in this build yet' state instead of an answer — uploading a PDF, the local extraction, and the preview all still work, only the AI answering step is not configured.
