Background placement is best-effort: the watermark is appended to the page's existing content stream, so on a page that already has graphics, the stamp is drawn over them rather than literally underneath. Use foreground mode when the stamp must clearly sit on top. Text watermarks use the fourteen built-in PDF standard fonts only — custom or embedded fonts cannot be used, so exact brand typography is not possible. Watermarks are applied as flat drawings (vector text or the image XObject); they are not searchable/reflowable metadata, and the original content is not removed, so a watermark never truly hides underlying text.
How to use this tool
- Add the PDF you want to protect or brand.
- Pick text or image as the watermark, then set the string or upload the PNG/JPEG stamp.
- Tune appearance: opacity, size scale, rotation, and color (text mode only).
- Choose a placement: one of the nine anchor positions plus an x/y offset, or enable tile mode to repeat the stamp in a grid.
- Select the page range, choose foreground or background layering, then run and download the result.
