Privacy
Processing happens on your Mac. The app has no account, no analytics inside the app and no upload. It connects to the internet only to check for updates; macOS may download speech or translation languages on first use.
Install and first open
- Open the downloaded DMG and drag the app to your Applications folder.
- Open it from Applications. The app is notarized by Apple, so macOS shows a one-time confirmation that it was downloaded from the internet; choose Open.
- To turn on the Finder Quick Actions, open System Settings, then General, Login Items and Extensions, and enable the Paperlane actions under Finder.
- Optional: choose a launcher shortcut and turn on agent access in the app's Settings.
Verify the download. Compare the SHA-256 of the DMG with the value above using shasum -a 256 in Terminal.

AI that stays on your Mac
Transcription, subtitles, translation and text recognition use Apple's on-device frameworks. PDF summaries and smart renaming use Apple Intelligence on macOS 26; other Macs get pattern-based renaming. macOS may download speech or translation languages the first time you use them.
Agents and MCP
Turn on agent access in Settings and approve folders. Claude Desktop, Claude Code, Cursor and Codex can then run Paperlane tools on files inside those folders. Agent outputs are new files. There is no delete tool.
Automations and watch folders
Chain steps into a recipe, point it at a folder, and new files are processed as they arrive. Recipes run the same tools as the window, with the same limits.
Screen, audio and text capture
Record the screen with system audio, record from the microphone, or grab text from any region of the screen. Recording asks for the macOS permissions it needs the first time, and nothing is sent anywhere.
Finder and Shortcuts
Five Quick Actions in Finder's right-click menu compress, convert, merge PDFs, remove backgrounds and extract text. The Run Paperlane Tool and Run Paperlane Recipe actions bring every tool into Shortcuts.

Paperlane for Mac processes files on your Mac without a connection. macOS may download speech or translation languages the first time you use them.

Yes. Every tool, batches, Finder Quick Actions, Shortcuts, automations and agent access are free, and there is no account.
Where are results saved?
Next to the original file by default, with a new name. Originals are never changed; the one exception is Batch Rename, which renames in place and keeps an undo journal.
