Rendering quality depends on the source: a 600 DPI conversion cannot add detail that a low-resolution scan never captured, and all PDF content is rasterized — vector text and graphics become pixels, so text is no longer selectable in the output images. Very high DPI on large or many pages is memory-hungry and can be slow; Paperlane warns when a render approaches browser memory limits and refuses renders that would almost certainly crash the tab. Password-protected PDFs must be unlocked (Remove Password) before conversion.

How to use this tool

  1. Add a PDF using the file picker or drag-and-drop — up to 70 pages per document are converted on your device in Paperlane.
  2. Choose which pages to convert: all pages, or specific pages by number from the thumbnail rail. Page numbers here match the pages in your PDF.
  3. Pick a resolution: the 72, 150, 300, or 600 DPI presets, or a custom scale. Higher DPI means sharper images but larger files and more memory, so start at 150 DPI for on-screen use and go to 300 DPI (or more) for print.
  4. Set the output format (JPG or PNG), the JPG quality (higher keeps more detail), and a background color for pages with transparency in JPG mode, then download a single image or a ZIP archive.
