Scanned or image-only pages have no text to extract, so they are skipped rather than guessed at — run OCR first and convert the OCR'd PDF for full coverage. Images are not embedded: photos, logos, and diagrams from the source PDF do not carry over into the Word file. Complex multi-column or floating layouts are flattened into a single reading order, so sidebars, text boxes, and overlapping content are not reproduced. Fonts and exact spacing are not preserved: the output uses Word defaults and will not match the source PDF pixel-for-pixel. Table detection is best-effort and only handles simple whitespace-aligned or ruled tables without merged cells; complex tables may come through as plain paragraphs. Headings are inferred from font-size jumps and can be wrong — verify the document structure in Word before publishing.
How to use this tool
- Add a PDF that has real, selectable text using the file picker or drag-and-drop. If your PDF is a scan (image-only pages), run OCR first and convert the OCR'd result instead.
- Choose a conversion mode: Reflowed text merges PDF lines into flowing paragraphs that re-wrap to the page width, while Visual layout keeps line breaks and page breaks closer to the original PDF.
- Start the conversion. After it finishes, the result shows a fidelity summary: how many pages had a usable text layer, how many were skipped, and whether any tables were found.
- Download the .docx file, open it in Word, and spot-check headings, tables, and any pages flagged as skipped scanned content.
