Detection is deterministic and pattern-based, not comprehensive: it recognizes a small set of common PII shapes and can miss unusual formats (false negatives) or flag things that merely resemble them (false positives), so always review the scan results before redacting. No cloud or AI-assisted suggestion path is implemented — this tool runs entirely on your device and never sends your document or its contents anywhere, and it cannot detect PII that is rendered as an image rather than selectable text (use OCR first for scanned documents).
How to use this tool
- Upload a PDF and run a scan to find candidate personally identifiable information — email addresses, phone numbers, credit-card numbers (validated by checksum), and US Social Security numbers — with type, page, context snippet, and confidence shown for each match.
- Review every detected match and reject the false positives: mark individual items as keepers, or use the select-all control per PII type to include a whole category and then exclude the exceptions.
- Confirm the redaction of only the matches you selected. The chosen spans are permanently removed from the PDF (covered and stripped from the text layer) and the result can be downloaded.
