Password encryption is not currently available in this build: the pinned pdf-lib 1.17.1 library only implements the read side of PDF encryption and cannot write encrypted output, and no verified browser-side encryption engine is wired up yet — the tool reports an error instead of producing a file, and never claims an algorithm it did not write. A lost user or owner password cannot be recovered by this app or by anyone else — encryption is irreversible by design, so keep a copy of your password somewhere safe. This tool encrypts a new file and cannot re-encrypt a PDF that is already password-protected — remove the existing password first.

How to use this tool

  1. Open Encrypt PDF and drop in the PDF you want to protect.
  2. Set a strong user password — anyone who opens the file will need it — and optionally a separate owner password to control permission changes.
  3. Watch the password-strength indicator, then choose which actions (printing, copying, modifying content, filling forms) should stay allowed.
  4. Read the recovery warning and tick the confirmation box to acknowledge that a lost password cannot be recovered, then run the tool.
