Frequently asked questions
How is age calculated in years, months and days?
It counts whole years and months from the date of birth to your chosen date, then the leftover days. Born on 15 June 1995 and measured on 8 September 2026, the age is 31 years, 2 months and 24 days. It uses calendar dates, with no time zone shift.
Can I find age on a past or future date?
Yes. Change the Age on this date field to any date on or after the birth date, such as an exam cut-off, a school admission deadline or a form's reference date. If that date is before the birth date, the tool shows an error instead of a negative age.
How does it handle birthdays on the 29th, 30th or 31st?
Months are counted by stepping forward from the birth date and clamping to the end of a shorter month, so 31 January plus one month is 28 February, or 29 in a leap year. This avoids negative day counts and gives a consistent result for month-end births.
Is the result valid as proof of age?
No. It is a quick calendar calculation in completed years, months and days, not a legal age certificate or an official record. For official purposes such as admissions, insurance or government forms, use your birth certificate or whatever document the authority specifies.
