Frequently asked questions

How is the SIP return calculated?

The tool uses the future value formula FV = P × [((1 + i)^n − 1) / i] × (1 + i), with i as the annual rate divided by 12 and by 100, and n as months. At 5,000 a month, 12% a year, for 15 years, you invest 9,00,000 and the estimate is about 25,22,880.

Is the SIP return guaranteed?

No. The calculator assumes the same return every month for the whole period, but markets move up and down. Treat the result as an illustration of how compounding works, not a forecast. Actual mutual fund returns can be higher or lower, and can be negative in a bad year.

Does it include expense ratio, exit load or tax?

No. Expense ratios, exit loads, taxes and fund charges are ignored, so real net returns will be lower than the figure shown. The formula also assumes each instalment is invested at the start of the month, and step-up SIPs are not modelled.

What is the difference between SIP and compound interest here?

The SIP calculator handles a fixed amount invested every month. The compound interest calculator grows a single lump sum with no further deposits. Use the SIP tool for monthly investing and the compound interest tool for a one-time investment or a fixed deposit.
