How to use this tool
- Enter a size and pick bytes, KiB, MiB or GiB (1024-based).
- See the same quantity expressed in the other three units.
- Download a PDF of the conversion. Disk vendors often use 1000-based MB.
About this tool
Convert file sizes free in your browser between bytes, KiB, MiB and GiB using 1024-based units. Nothing is uploaded; the conversion runs on your device. Storage packaging that uses 1000-based megabytes will not match these figures.
Privacy & limitations
Uses 1024-based units. Marketing megabytes on storage packaging are often 1000-based and will not match.

Frequently asked questions
How many KB are in a MB?
This tool uses 1024-based units, so 1 MiB is 1,024 KiB, or 1,048,576 bytes. Enter 1.5 MiB and it shows 1,572,864 bytes and 1,536 KiB. Many websites, phone makers and disk makers use 1,000-based megabytes instead, which gives slightly smaller numbers, so the two can disagree.
Which units can I convert?
You can enter bytes, KiB, MiB or GiB and the tool shows the value in all four. It uses binary units, where each step is 1,024 times the last. It does not convert terabytes or 1,000-based decimal units, but you can enter a byte count directly to compare.
Why does my 1 TB drive show less space?
Drive makers count 1 TB as 1,000,000,000,000 bytes, while many systems show space in 1,024-based units. Enter that byte count here and you get about 931 GiB, which explains the difference. The disk is not missing space; the two units are measured differently.
How do I check a file against a 2 MB upload limit?
Convert the file's size in bytes or KiB to MiB. A portal's 2 MB limit may mean 2,000,000 or 2,097,152 bytes, and it is rarely stated, so stay under 2,000,000 bytes to be safe. If the file is over, compress it first.
