About this tool
Remove the password from a PDF you can already open, free and entirely in your browser — type the password you know, confirm you are allowed to, and download an unprotected copy. It never guesses or cracks passwords, so a forgotten one cannot be recovered. Nothing is uploaded.
Privacy & limitations
You must know the password. This app checks the one you type and nothing else: it never guesses, cracks or bypasses passwords, so a forgotten password cannot be recovered here. Only the password to open the file is removed. The copy is saved without any encryption; if you still want protection, run Encrypt PDF on the new file. Very large or heavily damaged files can run out of memory on a phone, and a file that is encrypted and also damaged may be reported as a wrong password. Digital signatures on the original will not validate on the rewritten copy.

Frequently asked questions
How do I remove the password from a PDF if I know it?
Add the PDF, type the password you normally use to open it, tick the confirmation that you are allowed to remove it, and run. You download a copy that opens without a password. The check and the rewrite happen in your browser, so the file is never uploaded.
Can I remove a PDF password if I forgot it?
No. This tool only works with the password you type; it never guesses, cracks or bypasses one. If you forgot it, look in the email or portal the file came from, since banks and government sites often state the password format, or ask the sender for a new copy.
Is my password or PDF sent anywhere when I remove the password?
No. The work is done by qpdf compiled to WebAssembly, a small engine of about 1.3 MB that your browser downloads once from this site. Your file and password stay in the tab, and the Network tab in your browser's developer tools will show no upload.
Will the unlocked PDF keep its text and quality?
Yes. The file is decrypted and rewritten without re-rendering pages or recompressing images, so text stays selectable and pictures are unchanged. Size stays close to the original. Digital signatures on the old file will not validate on the new copy because its bytes changed.
