How to use this tool
- Choose a mode: format or validate JSON, compare two text versions, encode/decode Base64, or calculate SHA-256.
- Paste text or choose a file for hashing, then set the JSON indentation if needed.
- Run the operation, inspect the result, then copy or download it.
- For a diff, put the earlier version in Original text and the newer version in Changed text.
About this tool
Developer Utilities runs in your browser to format and validate JSON, compare two text inputs, encode or decode Base64, and calculate SHA-256 for text or files. Choose an operation, provide the text or file, then copy or download the result. Text inputs are limited to 1 MiB; comparisons to 20,000 characters and 2,000 lines per side; file hashing to 64 MiB.
Privacy & limitations
Text inputs are limited to 1 MiB. Each side of a text comparison is limited to 20,000 characters and 2,000 lines. JSON formatting stops at 128 nested containers or an 8 MiB output. File hashing supports files up to 64 MiB. Base64 decoding accepts the standard alphabet, padding, and whitespace. URL-safe Base64 isn’t supported.

Frequently asked questions
Is Base64 encryption?
No. Base64 is an encoding format, not encryption; anyone who has the encoded text can decode it.
Does a matching SHA-256 hash prove a file is safe?
No. A matching hash only shows that the file’s bytes match the value you compared it with; it does not certify the file as safe.
Can I format invalid JSON?
No. The formatter needs valid JSON syntax. Correct the error first, or use Validate JSON to check the input.
