Automatic subtitle generation needs a speech-recognition model that is not available in this build. You can write or convert subtitle files with the Subtitles tools.

Subtitle Converter & Resync

How to use this tool

  1. Add the video or audio recording you want captioned. It stays on your device.
  2. Choose the output: SRT for video players and editors, WebVTT for a web page, or plain text with no timings.
  3. Press “Write subtitles”, then check the timings in Subtitle Converter & Resync before you publish them.

About this tool

Write the subtitles from the speech in a recording, on your own machine. Free and unlimited, and nothing is uploaded: it all runs in your own browser. Recognition runs entirely on your device — nothing is uploaded to any server, and the result is generated locally before downloading straight from your browser.

Privacy & limitations

Speech recognition does not run in the browser yet, so this tool cannot write subtitles today. To caption a video now, write an .srt file yourself and add it with Burn In Subtitles, or fix an existing file with Subtitle Converter & Resync. When it arrives, recognition will need a one-time download of an on-device speech model. Your recording will still never be uploaded.
